Austria: Ellmau and Lech

In 2016 we returned to the charming village of Ellmau, located in the middle of the breathtaking Wilder Kaiser mountains and Kitzbüheler Alpen. The SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser is one of the largest in Austria with a total of 250km of pistes.

The mountain range provides vast areas of moderate skiing which provided an ideal location to warm up for the ski experience ahead. Our Ellmau stay provided the opportunity of visiting the delightful village of Hopfgarten, well known to the Contiki skiers.

We were welcomed back to the beautiful Der Bär hotel, owned by the Windisch Family. The completely refurbished Der Bar hotel, provided a modern and luxurious base combined with the warmth and charm of a traditional Tyrolean family business.

From Ellmau we travelled to Lech am Arlberg, a charming traditional Austrian village in what is regarded as the snowiest area of the Alps.  The incredibly well planned lift system connects Lech to the villages of Zürs, Zug & Warth (amongst others); offering a total of 47 lifts and 190 km of pistes.

Lech is connected into the Ski Arlberg Ski Pass and provided our group with access to the nearby resorts of St Anton & St Christoph.

The Hotel Gotthard, owned by the Walch family, is perfectly located in the village of Lech just as short walk from the lifts, cafes and shops. Hotel Gotthard provided a great spa area, fitness centre and indoor pool, with great local food and even its own in-house bakery.

Our stay in Lech provided us with diverse skiing with long runs, good snow and quality groomed pistes together with some magnificent sunshine. It is in Lech that we had the opportunity to experience some challenging off-piste skiing and take on the most challenging runs.
